The Legacy Pavilion was opened on January 18th, 2020. Inside the exhibition there is a welcome center, ticket office, gift shop, and a southern cuisine restaurant.
Inside the museum, there is a monument dedicated to woman, men, and children, who were victims of racial terror lynchings after the civil war and during the reconstruction period. The monument memorializes over 2,000 people who were lynched between the years 1865 and 1876.
The pavilion also honors local civil rights activists such as Martin Luther King Jr., Claudette Colvin, John Lewis, Rosa Parks, and others. It helps the visitors to understand the unique role Montgomery played in fueling a civil rights movement that continues to go around the world.
