The Legacy Museum is an 11,000 square foot museum built on the site of an old warehouse where former enslaved people were imprisoned. It's also located between a historic slave market, the main river dock, and the train station where thousands of enslaved people were trafficked during the domestic slave trade.
Inside the museum, EJI presents unique technology to dramatize the enslavement of African Americans, racial lynchings, segregation, and racial hierarchy in the US. Inside the museum there are jars of soil with the name of the person lynched, county, and year. EJI involves the community inviting them to gather jars of soil.
